Police patrolled the grounds of the Birralee Nursing Homes last night with the facility’s security, to ensure residents felt safe following a random attack on an elderly resident earlier this week.
The victim, who was yet to be identified, was asleep in her room at the Innaloo facility when a man burst through the door and stabbed her once in the chest.

She was treated by staff and then taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, where she was found to have suffered a collapsed lung and internal bleeding
Dr Flett confirmed the gates to the centre were not locked on the night of the attack and also there were no security cameras installed.
She said the facility had a number of routine security checks throughout the night to ensure doors were locked and it was not yet clear how the man gained access to the woman’s room or to the inner hallway of the building.
